The Limpopo Agriculture Department has allocated over R3 million to revive the collapsed Zebediela Citrus Estate, a 3,000-hectare farm that suffered from financial mismanagement and internal conflicts within the Bjatladi Communal Property Association.
It was restituted to the Bjatladi Community Property Association in 2003. Over the years, the government has used over R500 million to revive the project. Department spokesperson Pelane Phakgadi says they want to diversify the farm.
“The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has set aside R3 million to look into the affairs of the CPA of the Zebediela citrus. The engagements are there, currently at a high level to find out those programmes that we can be able to deal with so that we can argue the current programmes that are happening at the citrus farm to ensure it is revitalised.”
