Two suspects, aged 22 and 39, have been arrested in connection with the murder of five family members in Bityi, near Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape last week. According to the police, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were seized from the suspects during their arrest at the Msukweni location.
Five individuals were shot dead in Ncenjana village, Bityi, on Friday night. Police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa stated that the suspects will appear at the Bityi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The mobilization of all available resources by the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, bore fruit as seasoned detectives have arrested two people and seized one firearm within days of the crime at Bityi.
During the investigation, police were led to a location where an unlicensed firearm, specifically a Norinco, along with ammunition, was recovered. The suspects face multiple charges, including five counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
