Star striker Lyle Foster has been pulled out of the Bafana Bafana team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo Brazzaville. He sustained a knee injury during the previous match between the two teams at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. Foster collided with Congo goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi, resulting in a left knee injury. He has been sent for scans to assess the extent of the injury.
Bafana Bafana team doctor, Dr. Tshepo Molobi, stated that the injury is not as severe as initially thought. Foster does not require surgery, but he does need time for rehabilitation. Foster did not travel to Brazzaville, but instead, he rejoined his club side, Burnley, in England for early rehabilitation.
The qualifier in Brazzaville starts at 6 pm South African time. South Africa is currently tied with Uganda on 7 points after three matches in Group K.
