The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s lawyers have requested a postponement of the upcoming October sitting from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). This request comes after a full bench of the Western Cape High Court granted an interim interdict, preventing Dr. John Hlophe from participating in the October JSC sitting until a review of his designation to the JSC is conducted.
The JSC is expected to hold its next sitting from the 7th to the 11th of October 2024. In the letter to the JSC, dated 30 September 2024, attorneys on behalf of the MK Party contend that the effect of the interdict renders the JSC “improperly constituted”.
Following the review of Dr. Hlophe’s appointment to the JSC, the MK Party is requesting a delay of the October JSC session. Lawyers representing the MK Party have set a deadline of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, for a response. If they don’t receive a response by then, the party is prepared to take additional legal action.
