Former African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee member Tony Yengeni, who represented former President Jacob Zuma in his disciplinary hearing, claims that the process that led to Zuma’s expulsion from the party was flawed. Yengeni believes there are multiple grounds for appealing the decision to expel Zuma, and he emphasized that this is not the end of the road for Zuma. While he did not confirm whether Zuma would appeal, he stated that he would wait for further instructions.
He added that ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula tried to intimidate him by sending threatening messages to him during the process of the National Disciplinary Committee hearing against Zuma.
Former President Jacob Zuma has 21 days to appeal.
“Without consulting the former president from a physical meeting to a virtual meeting he took it that they were interfering with his rights as a member of the ANC having agreed on the meeting, then changed to virtual. When Mbalula wrote the letter to the DC to say that it was because of security reasons before the election maybe people will understand that but long after the elections what security issues are there to stop a physical meeting? Zuma wanted to meet them physically, look them in the eyes, and say what is this, let’s debate this, and let’s discuss it as comrades but they denied him that opportunity. So, his view is that this hearing was conveyed for optics but the decision has been taken long ago that he must be expelled,” says Yengeni.
