The South African Early Childhood Development (ECD) Teachers Union has requested the Minister of Basic Education to address their concerns. They are asking for permanent employment and to be compensated similarly to grade 1-12 teachers. On Wednesday, they delivered two memorandums to the Department of Basic Education. The union has given the Department seven days to review their demands.
The Department has accepted the memorandums and committed to getting back to the Grade R teachers. The Director of Basic Education, David Ntloana, stated, “I have been requested to receive the memorandum on behalf of the Ministry. We promise that the Minister will definitely respond to the leadership of the South African Early Childhood Development Teachers united. We are aware of the timeline, and we assure you that the ministry will respond as soon as possible.”
