The Woodview Ratepayers Association in Phoenix, located north of Durban, and other stakeholders are objecting to a housing development on Viewhaven Drive.
Theo Pillay, Chairperson of the Association, mentioned that there was no prior consultation between residents and the eThekwini Municipality regarding the development, which is an area of the Durban Metropolitan Open Space System.
Pillay is expressing concern that the development is not in the best interest of the community and is calling for a complete halt to the project. He is urging the council to disclose information about the individuals or groups behind the development and who stands to benefit from it. Pillay is questioning whether an impact assessment has been conducted for the area, particularly due to heavy traffic, and whether road widening plans have been approved by the relevant department. He emphasizes the need for transparency before any further progress is made.
