A man drowned in Salt Rock after a water pipe burst while he was working in a trench.
The incident took place around 5 pm.
According to Dylan Meyrick from IPSS Medical Rescue, the contractor was carrying out repairs when he drowned.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the man was busy working in a trench when a water pipe burst. This caused the trench to collapse, burying the man waist-deep in the sand and then filling up with water,” Meyrick said.
Unfortunately, the man could not be rescued and his colleagues were not able to dig him out.
“Paramedics from IPSS Medical Rescue and members of IPSS Search and Rescue, along with the Kwadukuza Fire Department and CERT Tongaat, collaborated to free a man who was trapped. Unfortunately, the man was declared deceased at the scene. Meyrick expresses their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.”
