African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says that party members in the Western Cape must prioritize reaching out to various national groups. Ramaphosa was speaking in Athlone, Western Cape today, where the ANC held a cake-cutting ceremony to mark 113 years of its existence.
The ANC has brought its birthday celebrations to the province where the party has not held power since 2009. Ramaphosa says that the ANC must represent all races in the country.
“The African National Congress must not just be an organization of a certain group of people. Nonracialism means White South Africans, Black South Africans, and South Africans who are colored and who are Indian must feel that they are at home in the African National Congress.”
Meanwhile, ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile officiated at the party’s birthday celebration at George in the Western Cape.
Mashatile was joined by ANC officials from all over the Victor Molosi Region. The event is a build-up to the birthday rally on Saturday at the Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
Mashatile says the party needs to unite and become stronger in order to do well in the 2026 local government elections.
Mashatile says they are busy renewing the party to restore it to its former glory.
“This child has grown, defeated apartheid, and now it’s rebuilding our country. We are busy with the renewal of the ANC and I want them to rebuild the structures of the ANC so that the ANC can once again rise to be a formidable organization.”
