Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Mzwanele Nyontsho has stated that he will engage with AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to discuss the King’s attempts to dismiss certain members of the Ingonyama Trust Board. Nyontsho contends that the King has exceeded his authority by suspending these Board members, asserting that such decisions fall solely under the jurisdiction of the Minister.
Nyontsho says due process should be followed for the suspension of board members.
“We still wish that we talk to the King, but after, we also respect that he’s in seclusion until the 15th of January. We’re hoping that after the 15th of January, we will also talk to him and then say we are still looking at these things.”
“If there are compelling reasons for dissolving the Board, we will proceed with the dissolution. However, we must ensure that all necessary processes are followed to close any potential gaps, so we avoid finding ourselves in and out of court,” Nyontsho adds.
