Clinton Larsen has resigned as Magesi F.C. coach with immediate effect. The 53-year old Larsen announced his resignation earlier on Saturday afternoon live on television during post match interviews, after his team lost 3-nil to the Carling All Stars Team at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Under the guidance of Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, the All Stars team scored three unanswered goals in the first half.
Youngster Naledi Hlongwane from the Chiefs DDC team broke the deadlock in the 11th minute. The All Stars team managed to stretch their lead through another Chiefs player – Samkelo Zwane – nine minutes later. The game was finished as a contest when the All Stars team scored their third goal in the 23 minute through Hlongwane.
Larsen was appointed Magesi F.C. coach in January 2023, and helped the Limpopo-based team gain promotion into the Premier Soccer League this season. Magesi F.C. won the Carling Knockout last month, upsetting Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite lifting a trophy in their debut season, they have not won a match since. They are currently struggling in South Africa’s topflight football and are rooted at the bottom of the log table.
