Defend our Democracy, a non-governmental organization, says the decision to move Minister Thembi Simelane to the Human Settlements Department instead of firing her is an injustice to the country.
Simelane is accused of being involved in the VBS scandal and allegedly living beyond her means while she was still the Mayor of Polokwane in Limpopo.
Defend our Democracy staged a symbolic tape tying outside the Department of Human Settlements in Pretoria.
The organisation’s Executive Director Zaakirah Vadi says President Cyril Ramaphosa needs to be decisive, especially now during corruption week.
“Minister Simelane had questions about her integrity while at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. Those questions have not disappeared now that she is at the Department of Human Settlements, she still needs to account to the public both the VBS linked matters that she is under question for, as well as recent allegations in the media about a lifestyle that is alleged to be lavish.”
