A severe storm has caused significant damage to municipal offices, schools and businesses in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga.
The storm has also disrupted power in the area and numerous trees have been uprooted.
Mkhondo Municipality spokesperson Howard Vilakazi says disaster management teams are assessing the damage.
“What happened is that we were hit by a storm yesterday which severely damaged most of the properties including our offices. We have instructed councillors to quantify the damage so at 11am we will meet to assess the extent of the damage and perhaps I can give you all the details of what has happened. Trees were uprooted including the roofs of houses. It is a lot for now,” Vilakazi said.
