Another alleged food poisoning incident has claimed the life of a five-year-old boy in Diepkloof, Soweto. Three other young boys are in a critical condition in hospital. It is believed that the children took ill after they had consumed snacks bought from a local spaza shop in the area, yesterday.
Ward Councillor Brenda Dammie has condemned the incident.
She says, “The four young kids, a five-year-old went and bought snacks; hardly 20 minutes after eating that snacks, the other boy became sick, and he was rushed in the hospital; hardly 30 minutes it was announced that the boy died.”
Dammie adds, “The other three were also taken to the hospital. We are all furious because we can’t be losing our children every day. The problem lies with the house owners because they are the ones who keep these people in their houses and let them open. I’m just so frustrated.”
Gauteng police have opened an inquest docket following the incident.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says, “According to reports, the child was vomiting and had a runny stomach before being taken to a local clinic where he was declared dead. The cause of death is unknown at this stage, pending autopsy results.”
