Political analyst Dr. Levy Ndou asserts that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) should explain to its supporters why senior party member Mbuyiseni Ndlozi was allegedly prevented from attending the party’s elective conference in December. There is growing speculation that the departure of senior leaders from the EFF could result in further electoral decline for the party.
The EFF dipped to 9.52% in the May general elections, becoming the fourth largest party after the arrival of the MK Party.
Reports suggest that Dr. Ndlozi was not provided with an explanation for his ban from the party’s activities.
Ndou says the EFF must account to its supporters, further warning that the decision to sideline Ndlozi from the elective conference may result in further divisions within the party.
“If you prevent someone like Dr. Ndlozi from attending the National People’s Assembly, you need to have very good and convincing reasons for doing so. Both members within the EFF and those outside the party could interpret this action in various ways. If this decision could lead to unnecessary dissatisfaction and divisions within the party, you must have a clear strategy to explain your reasoning to the party’s constituents,” says Dr. Ndou.
Ndou also suggests that Ndlozi may be nominated as a potential candidate for the position of Deputy President of the EFF, after Shivambu’s departure, which has led to concerns from the leadership of the red berets.
“Another factor in my view that is quite important is that Dr. Ndlozi appears to be having a lot of support among some sections of the EFF and, in the main, the young members of the EFF and that is why his name has been proposed to become the deputy of the CIC, Mr Malema. These kinds of issues that, if not properly handled by the party’s leadership, can create conflict that could have serious and negative implications.”
