Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation this week regarding the government’s response to the increasing incidents of suspected food poisoning in the country. Learners are the most affected group, with some having died and others being admitted to the hospital.
The crisis has led to widespread criticism of the government’s decision to suspend food sales on and around school premises. Addressing the media yesterday at Parliament following a Cabinet meeting, Ntshavheni said, “The President will address the Nation on interventions the government is taking to deal with this situation. In the meantime, the Department of Health has activated the National Institute for Communicable Disease (NICD) to trace and examine the source of the poisoning of foodstuffs and make recommendations.”
