The bail hearing of pig farmer Zacharia Olivier and two co-accused returns to the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.
Olivier and farm employees, Rudolf De Wet and William Musora have been in custody following the alleged shooting and killing of Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu in August. The remains of the two women were allegedly fed to pigs at a farm in Onverwacht.
Meanwhile, the High Court in Polokwane has set aside an application by Olivier’s defense, which argued that a written statement by the pig farmer could not be granted to the prosecution.
“In the case between the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Limpopo and Zacharia Olivier, the Polokwane High Court has overturned the magistrate’s order that allowed access to a statement made to the police for the purpose of a bail application. The bail application is now referred back to the magistrate in Mankweng and will be heard by a different magistrate’s court,” stated Mashudu Malabi-Dzhang, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority.
