The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng plans to seek intervention from its national leaders in the GNU. Brink was removed from his position on Thursday following a motion of no confidence tabled by the African National Congress (ANC), citing numerous failures in the municipality.
The ANC with its majority of seats in the Tshwane Council is looking at a new power-sharing deal with various political parties. Brink tells the media in Pretoria that he is confident that he will be back.
“I cannot predict the outcome of the democratic process, but what we have said is that I will be the mayoral candidate. We will put forward our candidacy and fight to win, and the opportunity will be there for the parties in council to make their decision. We made every effort to persuade the ANC not to bring a motion of no confidence. That would have given the parties the time and space to carefully consider what is in the best interest of the people of Tshwane. Unfortunately, they rejected that and proceeded with the motion of no confidence.”
