Former PRASA head of engineering, Daniel Mtimkulu, who was convicted of fraud for faking his qualifications, has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison. The HAWKS stated that due to the misrepresentation and fabricated CV, PRASA suffered prejudice as his annual salary was increased from R1.6 million to R2.8 million.
Mthimkhulu faces nine charges, including fraud and forgery, for allegedly providing false information about his qualifications to PRASA. He claimed to have obtained a Master’s Degree from Wits University and a Doctorate in Engineering Management from the Munich Technical University in Germany. In March, the Johannesburg High Court seized both his immovable and movable properties and instructed Mthimkhulu to pay PRASA R5.8 million.
