Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has rubbished claims that he has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to be the country’s deputy president. Reports say some EFF leaders were promised positions, but Malema went behind their backs. One of the party’s chief negotiators in the national unity talks, Floyd Shivambu, asked Ramaphosa to be his deputy. Initially, the EFF had asked that Shivambu be given the position of Finance Minister.
But addressing the hundreds of EFF Gauteng Ground Forces in Soweto on Monday night, Malema says there were no promises or negotiations about positions.
“Today they told you they were offered positions in the negotiations and when they came to tell me, I denied those positions and I went behind their backs to speak to Cyril for me to become the deputy president. Maybe in their imagination they imagine positions, there were never any positions offered in the negotiations,” explains EFF leader.
“I want to tell you here and now, I have never asked for any position of deputy president from Ramaphosa and I will never do that because I don’t have anything to do with what Ramaphosa has to do,” adds Malema.
