The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) has attributed the breakdown of their long-term agreement in Langeberg Municipality, Western Cape to the Democratic Alliance (DA). After the 2021 local government elections, where no party secured an outright majority, the two parties formed a coalition government in the municipality.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has stated that the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and the African National Congress (ANC) are considering teaming up to propose a motion of no confidence against one of its mayors—the Deputy leader of the FF+ in Western Cape, Adv. Gert van Niekerk, has accused the DA of arrogance.
Van Niekerk says, “Paragraph 1.1 of the coalition agreement says the coalition shall be called the coalition government or the multi-party coalition and no single party shall claim ownership of it. All over the show, it is the DA-led coalition, that’s what you hear.”
“The DA wants a rubber stamp; they don’t want a coalition partner. They want somebody who sits in the corner, is quiet, and only raises their hand to support the DA’s motions when needed.”
