The public broadcaster will no longer broadcast the Springbok Inbound Test matches against Ireland today and next Saturday.
In a statement released on Friday, the SABC says this decision will impact TV broadcasts only and the matches will be carried live on several radio stations.
The SABC has announced that its decision to continue with the sub-license Agreement concluded with Multichoice has been reviewed. This decision follows recent urgent litigation at the Competition Appeal Court over the broadcast rights to the Test matches. The match kicks off at 5 pm this evening.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi says that today’s test match against Ireland at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria is solely about one thing for his team – winning the clash and, in doing so, defending the Springboks’ number one ranking in the world.
Kolisi says because Ireland is the only team this Springbok group has not beaten, the test match is incredibly important.
“It’s about winning this test match, that is what we want to do. We would be lying if we said it is not important – it is the only team as this group and this coaching staff – it is the only team that we have not beaten; everybody else we have been able to beat so it is just important for us.”
