The trial of a Gauteng nurse who was detained and accused of planning her domestic worker’s death in order to obtain an R6 million life insurance payout has been postponed until next week. Sithembile Xulu made an appearance in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court, located south of Johannesburg, with her garden worker and co-accused Simon Mogale.
Three counts of fraud, one of murder, and one of thwarting the course of justice are being brought against them. The body of 21-year-old Busiswa Nxumalo was discovered in January 2022 at a landfill in Lenasia South, and the two are charged with his murder.
She had died from a stabbing. Xulu entered a not guilty plea to the allegations made against her during her bail hearing. She is adamant that she did nothing wrong. The matter has been postponed until Wednesday of the following week, during which the two will proceed with the formal bail application. They are being held in custody until they appear in court again.
