The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has expressed its confidence in KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, stating that he possesses the necessary expertise to lead the province forward. The IFP has returned to power in KwaZulu-Natal for the first time since 2004, this time, however, in a government of provincial unity rather than in sole control.
After the African National Congress (ANC), the IFP, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and the National Freedom Party (NFP) agreed to collaborate in governing the province, the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party emerged as the winner in KZN during the general elections on May 29th, but fell short of securing an outright majority. According to IFP Spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa, service delivery is among Ntuli’s key priorities.
Hlengwa says, “We fundamentally believe that his experience, knowledge, and expertise speak for themselves, as somebody who is going to be able to take forward the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
“The coalition government will need to merge the manifestos and ideas of the various parties that form part of this government to ensure a clear developmental direction for the province. However, we also need to focus on the fundamentals. It’s crucial to get municipal governance right, ensure the provision of water, improve the economy, and revitalize the economic hub. eThekwini needs to take center stage,” he adds.
