So far, just over half a percent of the ballots cast in the national elections have been counted. One hundred and thirty-three voting districts have declared their results. It’s important to note that these results are not an accurate prediction of the final outcome, as it is based on a small sample.
Currently, the African National Congress (ANC) is still in the lead, although its support has dropped to below 50%, with 13,383 votes. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is in a distant second place with 7,109 votes, but still well ahead of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who have 1,947 votes.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) are evenly matched nationwide. However, the PA receives most of its votes from the Western Cape and Northern Cape, while MK garners support in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. Additionally, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) reported that the majority of voting stations closed late last night due to long queues of voters that needed to be cleared.
